NARRATOR

(It's later that night. The rain continues. We see the exterior of "Scotties Local Watering Bowl." A sign on the window reads "The Mellow Sounds of Basil Rapbone." Rod walks through the door, takes off his trench coat, shakes it out and tosses it over a chair. Scottie tends bar. Also at the bar is Paco Bell, a creepy little guy with bulgy eyes and big pointed ears. Next to Paco is Rocky Bowboa. Rocky's an ex-boxer, with a snout plastered all over his face. Down at the end is Boomer, a quiet type who always sits alone because he's got a problem with flatulence. Scoop Trailer, a news hound with the Daily Barker sits on his favorite stool. Sitting at a small table in the corner is Precious Pointer. Rod nods to Basil and walks to the bar.)

SCOTTIE

Hey, gumshoe, you want the same?

ROD

Yeah, a double shot of Jack Spaniels.

(Scottie pours a drink. Rod sits next to Paco.)

Hey, Paco, still collecting residuals from those fast food commercials?

(Paco shakes head dejectedly)

You look more depressed than usual. Buy you a drink?

PACO

Sure, thanks. Just worried about my brother.

ROD

The illegal alien?

PACO

Yeah, a Border Collie busted him coming across. It's the third time he's been caught and I'm afraid this time, they'll crucify him

ROD

Nailed at the cross.

PACO

He's in real trouble, particularly after what he did the last time he crossed over.

ROD

What did he do?

PACO

He hopped a Greyhound.

ROD

So what's wrong with that?

PACO

The Greyhound was the governor's daughter.

(Rod pats Paco on the back and turns to Basil at the piano. Precious calls to Rod.)

PRECIOUS

Hey, Rod, gotta minute?

(Rod turns and walks over to Precious and sits down.)

ROD

Precious Pointer, I always have time for you. Still singing the blues?

PRECIOUS

Lately, the only singing I do is for drinks. But, my problems are nothing compared to my sister.

ROD

What is this, dysfunctional family night at Scotties? So what goes with the Pointer sisters?

PRECIOUS

Poor Penny. That no-good-account hound of hers believes in just one thing…keeping her barefoot and pregnant. She just had another litter and she's really dragging. There are just too many pups to take care of and you know how hard it is to get sitters for litters?

ROD

She should do something about it. I know this doc, Sam Spay, would fix her up real good. You let me know if she's interested?

(Precious nods her thanks. Rod gets up, throws her a kiss and walks over to Basil Rapbone. He pulls up a chair next to the piano and listens as Basil plays)

NARRATOR :

Well, now we know that the patrons at Scotties Watering Bowl have many problems. But their problems are minor compared to what lies ahead for Rod Weiler. In a conversation with his trusted friend, old time blues singer, Basil Rapbone, Rod relates his meeting with the lovely Babette deBeagle and the mysterious disappearance of Collywood film mongrel, Cecil deBeagle. A phone call from Beth Barker, his secreterrier, sends Rod off to meet with Babette at an old warehouse in the run down section of Collywood.
